5 Images of Cry Engine Environment

Strategy Statement

For this assignment, I attempted to keep the strong motif of the ocean. Throughout this experiement, and after seeing Russell's lectures, I realised the destructive power of the ocean. The combination of harsh salty winds and crushing waves constantly crashing into the coast is truly amazing. As my island was originally a rocky scottish island, I thought this would suit the environment.I chose Rudin house, because of the concrete that makes up most of the building, and the large cantilevered concrete slabs. The type of erosion caused is salt water getting into cracks in the concrete, corroding the rebar, causing collapses due to the large tension forces, that is no longer balanced by the steel. The event can therefore be summed up as a tsunami type situation, where the water level has risen over the 100 years engulfing the bottom of the building.

Week 6 reflection

After watching the trailers in the lecture, I think I am going to try for a more modern subtle approach (like the inception one) rather than the jaws or space odyssey, although I might still stick with the 3 stage approach.

The Strategy

My strategy for incorporating the letters and numbers was to keep a balance between subtly and actually being able to recognize them. I used a mixture of brushes, objects, decals and terrain in order to create the different letters and numbers. Because of the nature of my number (9) I used the actual character rather then the amount (eg creating 9 birds) because I believed it was too many to be subtle, however I did create the character out of multiple objects that were carefully placed. My basic rule of thumb was they should be hard to spot, but once found or pointed out, they can be easily recognized as the character.

week 5 reflection

The subtle ads used in today’s lecture did give me a better idea of decals that I might apply that can direct the viewer or influence their interpretation.
