Week 6 reflection

After watching the trailers in the lecture, I think I am going to try for a more modern subtle approach (like the inception one) rather than the jaws or space odyssey, although I might still stick with the 3 stage approach.

Week 5

5 scales ranging from micro to macro

The Strategy

My strategy for incorporating the letters and numbers was to keep a balance between subtly and actually being able to recognize them. I used a mixture of brushes, objects, decals and terrain in order to create the different letters and numbers. Because of the nature of my number (9) I used the actual character rather then the amount (eg creating 9 birds) because I believed it was too many to be subtle, however I did create the character out of multiple objects that were carefully placed. My basic rule of thumb was they should be hard to spot, but once found or pointed out, they can be easily recognized as the character.

week 5 reflection

The subtle ads used in today’s lecture did give me a better idea of decals that I might apply that can direct the viewer or influence their interpretation.

Week 4

Skybox

After: 1

week 4 reflection

The lecture about the sublime gave me a better understanding about what is required, however I am not particularly interested in the sublime. I do already have mountains and I will have to exaggerate them and contrast the sky/environment surrounding.

Week 3

Compatibility Brown

Claude Lorrain

Humphrey Repton

JMW Turner

William Gilpin (Independent Study)

Week 3 reflection

This week’s lecture about the picturesque did help with ideas and influenced my island. I especially liked Turner’s work and the foggy nature that surrounds the landscapes. I think I can use this in my work as I am planning on creating a overcast environment with limited visibility, that requires the viewer to look hard in order to distinguish the forms of the landscape.

Week 2

1st Island

Second Island (Independent study)

Custom Texture

Week 2 reflection

For this week’s lecture, there was some pretty weird shit, but I did like the work that Antony Gormley did, especially the one with multiple  forms, with the mirror behind, which gave an almost ghostly feel, especially those in the distance. It is almost like a fog particle effect. Also the 3d paper mask work by Eric TestroeteI is a nice poly model example. I am looking forward to using GeoControl, as it will make it a lot easier to get the landscape into CryEngine, especially on a larger scale.
